Discover Spanish Civil War fortifications and pristine sandy beaches bordering the Gibraltar runway region.
While Gibraltar dominates the historical tourism of the bay, the Spanish border town of La Línea de la Concepción holds its own fascinating layers of history, often overlooked by tourists rushing across the frontier.
Built in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War and during WWII, La Línea is fortified with incredible concrete bunkers designed to defend against potential allied coastal blockades. Many of these imposing structures still sit right on the beaches, such as Playa de Poniente, overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar.
Beyond its military history, La Línea is one of the most vibrant working-class towns in Andalusia, renowned for its incredible, hyper-local tapas culture. It offers a drastically cheaper and more authentic dining experience compared to the tourist-heavy restaurants inside Gibraltar.
If you are transferring from the Costa del Sol but want to spend a few hours exploring the bunkers or dining in the Plaza de la Iglesia before crossing the border, let our chauffeurs know. We can drop you in the historic core of La Línea instead of immediately at the pedestrian border gates.
